North Carolina native and funeral director, Ted Hopkins, CFSP, has brought life and healing to bereaved families and individuals for almost 20 years at Wilkerson Funeral Home. He has recently authored the book Life Stories: Healing and Hope in the Wake of Loss. This fourth-generation family-owned business gives him a platform to console, counsel, and encourage thousands who are dealing with loss. He will be holding his first book signing at Barnes & Noble, Friendly Shopping Center, Greensboro, July 22 at 7:00 PM. (7.7.10)

IT'S A BOY: A son, William Thomas "Will" Baynard was born to Jeff & Tina Baynard on Saint Patrick's Day, March 17, 2010 at Rowan Regional Medical Center in Salisbury. Jeff is a licensed funeral director/embalmer with Linn-Honeycutt Funeral Homes in China Grove and Landis, NC. (4.20.10)
IT'S A BOY: On Friday, April 2, 2010, Kelly Clements Misenhiemer gave birth to a baby boy named Jacob Pearson Misenhiemer. Mother, father and baby are doing fine. Grandpa (Travis Clements) and grandma (Linda) are reported to be doing okay. Kelly is a funeral director at Clements Funeral Service in Durham. (4.8.10)

The National Funeral Directors Association (NFDA) announced its Pursuit of Excellence® program’s 2009 award recipients. Out of 182 registrants – a 5.2% participation increase from 2008 – 167 firms have been recognized for adhering to strict ethical and professional standards and providing outstanding service to families and communities. Award recipients will be honored on October 26 at the “All-Star Recognition Ceremony and Reception” during the 2009 NFDA International Convention & Expo in Boston, Mass.To achieve the Pursuit of Excellence Award, NFDA-member funeral homes must demonstrate proficiency in key areas of the funeral service profession by fulfilling a set number of criteria in six categories of achievement. Participants must show their commitment to: Complying with state and federal regulations; providing ongoing education and professional development opportunities for staff; offering outstanding programs and resources to bereaved families; maintaining an active level of involvement within the community; participating and actively serving in the funeral service profession; and promoting funeral home services through a variety of marketing, advertising and public relations programs.
