Mother of Mike Cook- Cavin Cook Funeral Home, Mooresville, NC

Doris Shaw Cook, 92, of Mooresville, NC, passed away on Monday, April 21, 2025 surrounded by her loving family.

She was born on August 4, 1932 in Lexington, NC, to the late Raymond and Cora Gallimore Shaw. Doris was a 1950 graduate of Mooresville Central High School. She worked in the textile industry for over 40 years, retiring at the age of 62. Then after several years she announced that she had watched enough of The Price is Right and that she had been offered a job at Walmart, where she worked for 20 years and the last 17 years as a Greeter, which was her dream job!

Doris loved her grandchildren and great grandchildren and was proud of their accomplishments. A visit from them was always a welcome event. God blessed her with her own Florence Nightingale, her granddaughter Sherry Roberts, who has so lovingly cared for her every need.

Doris was a very strong-willed woman and endured her share of heartaches. She was only 40 when her husband, Hubert, died and went on to endure the passing of both her daughters, Cathy and Denise, and the love of her life, Charles Knear. Charles and Doris shared 35 wonderful years together. They enjoyed going on beach trips with Cathy and Jimmy and spending time with friends at the Mooresville Moose Lodge. They also enjoyed having a vegetable garden, canning, and cooking. They simply enjoyed spending time together and with family, and spoiling their Crocker Spaniel, Beau. The family can only hope that she has TV in Heaven so that she can watch, Gunsmoke, The Golden Girls, Forensic Files, Wheel of Fortune, and Family Feud. Doris cherished her friends and always appreciated a phone call or visit from them.

Her son, Mike, always made the 5 o'clock supper call to ensure she had something to eat. So next time you go through the drive thru at McDonalds, her son Mike said to order a "Doris Special", a double cheeseburger, medium fries, diet coke, and an apple pie. -Love you Mama!

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, Hubert T. Cook and Charles Knear; daughters, Cathy Cook Morton, Denise Cook Ramsouer; son-in-law, Jimmy Morton; brother, R.J. Shaw and his wife, Jackie; sister, Louise Shaw Goings and her husband, Junior.

Those left to cherish her memory include her son, H. Mike Cook (Cathy); son-in-law, Dean Ramsouer; grandchildren, Sherry M. Roberts (Jamey), Courtney C. Smith (Adam), Michael Cook, Jr. (Sherry), Taylor Ramsouer, Jonathan Ramsouer (Haylee); great grandchildren, Casey Cook, Lily Smith, Landon Cook, Sam Smith, Luke Roberts, Wyatt Ramsouer, Wesleigh Ramsouer, and Wrylie Ramsouer; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, April 24 from 5:00-7:00 PM at Cavin-Cook Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 2:00 PM on Friday, April 25 at the Chapel of Cavin-Cook Funeral Home with Chaplain Eddie Karriker officiating. Burial will follow the service at Glenwood Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Shriners Hospital for Children c/o Oasis Shriners, 604 Doug Mayes Place, Charlotte, NC 28262 and/or Hospice & Palliative Care of Iredell County, 2347 Simonton Road, Statesville, NC 28625.
