Dorothy McGhee

b. August 11, 2016

Dorothy Harrison McGhee, 90, transitioned to her heavenly home and into her mama's arms on Thursday, August 11, 2016. Dot was born in Raleigh, the eldest of six children born to Kathleen B. and John G. Harrison. She was totally dedicated to her family and was a wonderful mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.Much of her life involved the care of children in her personal life and in her career. She retired from Rex Hospital Day care where she touched the lives of many children and developed life-long friendships. She was a charter member of Faith Alliance Church (now Faith Community Church) in Garner. Her faith in God was steadfast, unwavering and without compromise. In her earthly journey our mom gave much to many and was thankful each day for her ability to contribute to the lives and hearts of others and for all she received. We were blessed to give back to her in her last years by caring for her.She is survived by her children, Brenda Robbins (Jim) of Cary; Debbie Cook Saelens (Randy) of Raleigh; Mike McGhee ( Debbie) of Greensboro; Carolyn Thorn of Summerfield; Sister, Betty Commee of Henderson; grandchildren, Jay Robbins; Randy Robbins; Laura Wilson; Kevin Cook and Kelly Michael; eight great-grandchildren.A service to celebrate Dot's life will be Monday, August 15 at 2 p.m. at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home Chapel, Raleigh with interment following at Raleigh Memorial Park. The family will greet friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.Dot's children would like to express their heartfelt thanks to Cory Nafziger, her Nurse Practitioner and to Hospice and Palliative Care of Greensboro. Thank you for walking with us and guiding us through this journey. The kindness shown to us and especially to our mom will never be forgotten.
