Eloise Hughes Henline passed away on Monday, May 4th, 2026, at StoryPoint Assisted Living in Johnson City, Tennessee, at the age of 99
A native of Mitchell County, North Carolina and the Harrell Hill Community, Eloise was the only child of Javine and Myra Webb Hughes. She attended Tipton Hill High School and was a graduate of Appalachian State Teachers College. After college, she taught Home Economics in Avery County Schools and was a substitute teacher in Mitchell County Schools.
On June 13th, 1948, Eloise married James Emerson Henline with whom she shared 75 years of marriage. They opened Henline - Hughes Funeral Home in 1949 and dedicated their lives to serving the community and guiding families faithfully through the loss of their loved ones.
Eloise was a member of Bakersville Baptist Church and a former member of the Bakersville Women's Club and the Fireman's Auxiliary. She enjoyed patio vegetable gardening in her free time. Eloise’s special interests included Boston terrier dogs and vacationing and spending time with her family at the Crystal Coast of North Carolina.
In addition to her parents, Eloise was preceded in death by her husband James Emerson Henline, and her sister-in-law Regina Lewis Henline.
Eloise is survived by her brother-in-law Bill Henline, of Spruce Pine, NC, her niece Debbie Henline, of Johnson City, TN, and her beloved Boston terrier Alx.
A graveside service will be held Friday, May 8, 2026, at 2:00PM at Bakersville Memorial Cemetery with Pastor Jim Sutton officiating. All are welcome and invited to attend the service.
