Longtime NC Funeral Director
George Michael Patterson, 72 of Concord passed away peacefully on March 16, 2026 after a battle with Alzheimer's disease. He lived his life deeply devoted to his family and to his career as a licensed funeral director and embalmer. He was born in Concord, NC on July 11, 1953 to the late Louis Allen Patterson, Jr.and Nan Lee Justice Patterson.
George was a graduate of Concord High School and Gupton-Jones College of Mortuary Science. Throughout his life, he was very intrigued by civil war history, participating in reenactments and public speaking on the topic of Concord History. As a researcher of Cabarrus County history, he was the author of the books,"Concord and Cabarrus County in Vintage Postcards" and "Concord and Cabarrus County Revisited" where he proudly published some of his postcards and pictural images. He was instrumental in Historic Cabarrus, ensuring its preservation which today is displayed in the old Cabarrus County Courthouse.
George began his career in funeral service at Hartsell Funeral Home of Concord, Wilkinson Funeral Home, Hankins-Whittington of Charlotte, and finally Whitley Funeral Home , where he retired from in 2018.
He is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Janet Troutman Patterson, children, Ryan M. Patterson (Heidi) and Brittany P. Eaton (Daniel) all of Concord,three adorable grandchildren, Ethan Patterson, Eliza Eaton, Isabel Eaton with his faithful siblings, Malinda P. Barbee Allison, Gail P. Johnson (Mike), Robert L.(Bob) Patterson (Karen) as well as a host of nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, L.A. "Buddy" Patterson, III.
A memorial service officiated by the Reverend William C. Ridenhour to celebrate George's life will be held at 2:00 PM on March 19, 2026 at St. James LutheranChurch, 104 Union Street South, Concord, NC 28025. Visitation will take place in the Fellowship Hall of the church from 12:30 - 2:00 prior to service time. A committal service will follow at Oakwood Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. James Lutheran Church or Historic Cabarrus Association Inc. P. O. Box 966, Concord, NC 28026.
