Jimmy Harris

Jimmy Lane Harris, 84, a longtime resident of Durham, died peacefully Tuesday following a period of declining health. Jimmy was a native of Roanoke Rapids, the youngest of five children born to Paul E. and Flossie P. Harris. He graduated from Roanoke Rapids High School and served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. He attended Louisburg College, later transferring to UNC-Chapel Hill to earn his bachelor's degree in business administration. Throughout his working life he was associated with building material sales, retiring from the Lowes Contractor Yard in 1999. In addition to his parents, siblings Jack, Billy and Melba preceded Jimmy in death. Surviving are his wife Kathy McKinney, three children, Paul Harris of Durham, Jennifer H. Bazari of Clayton and Andrew Harris of Clayton; his brother Paul T. "Baldy" Harris of Roanoke Rapids and three grandchildren, Duncan, Pearce and Sarah. A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, September 24th at Mt. Bethel Presbyterian Church in Durham. The family will greet friends at the church immediately following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mt. Bethel Presbyterian Church, 3541 Rose of Sharon Road, Durham, NC 27712. Clements Funeral Service in Durham is handling cremation arrangements.
