Ronald Jay Hawkins, age 64 resident of Kings Mountain, NC went to be with his Lord on December 8, 2016 at his home. He was born in Cleveland Co. NC. He was preceded in death by his father, J B Hawkins. He was a longtime member of First Presbyterian Church, Kings Mtn. NC where he was an Elder and Sunday School Teacher. He especially enjoyed leading the Children's sermon. Ronnie was Manager and Vice President of Harris Funeral Home, Inc., holding a funeral service license in North Carolina and South Carolina. He received his mortuary degree from Gupton-Jones College, Atlanta, GA. He was a former member of the Kings Mountain Rescue Squad and Kings Mountain Fire Department. He was on the Kings Mountain District School Board for 12 years and a Cleveland County Commissioner for 16 years. He served in the United States Army and was a member of the Cleveland County Board of Realtors. He was a Realtor with Coldwell Banker Mountain View Real Estate. He served on many Board of Directors for various organizations and received numerous awards including the prestigious Order of the Long Leaf Pine from Gov. Pat McCroy. Mayor Scott Neisler recently presented Ronnie with a Key to the City of Kings Mountain. He enjoyed being involved in the Boy Scouts of America and being an advocate for Education and Animal Rights. Ronnie will be greatly missed by his family, friends, colleagues and all the citizens of Cleveland County. SURVIVORS Wife of 41 years: Libby Dye Hawkins, Kings Mtn. NC Mother: Aloyse Walker Jones and husband Oscar Jones, Bostic, NC Brothers: Keith M. Hawkins and wife Sandy, Kings Mtn. NC Darrell Hawkins and wife Sandra, Kings Mtn. NC Dillon Jones and Jacob Jones, Bostic, NC Sister: Shandora Sparks and husband Tommy, Kings Mtn. NC Godchildren: John O. Harris, IV, Layla A. Harris and Abbie D. Harris. His Beloved K-9 Companions: Hope, Zoe, and George. Numerous Nieces and Nephews. MEMORIAL SERVICE: First Baptist Church, Kings Mountain, NC Monday, December 12, 2016 2:00 P.M. Rev. Greg Martin and Dr. John Sloan, Officiating. VISITATION: Immediately following the service at First Baptist Church, Kings Mountain, North Carolina The Community is invited to view and pay your respects on Sunday, December 11, 2016 from Noon until 5:00 P.M. at Harris Funeral Home, Kings Mountain, North Carolina.
