Former partner of Rich & Thompson Funeral & Cremation Service-Burlington

Spencer Lloyd Carter, 86, known as Lloyd, of Burlington, NC passed away at Alamance Regional Medical Center on Wednesday, March 18, 2026 surrounded by his family.

A native of Reidsville, NC, he was a devoted husband of 64 years to Ethel Ann Childrey Carter, who survives and the son of James William Carter and Claudia Mildred Butler Carter, both deceased. He was a proud father of his sons, Wesley Lloyd Carter and Bryant William Carter, both of Kill Devil Hills, NC. He was also survived by many cousins and close friends.

Lloyd graduated from the Reidsville City School System and from the Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science. During his life, his passion and caring spirit for others molded his way to becoming a well-respected funeral director in Alamance County serving his community for 66 years. After several years of working for Rich & Thompson Funeral and Cremation Service located in Burlington and Graham, North Carolina, he became one of the four owners serving as President and Treasurer.

Lloyd is a longtime active member of St. Paul's Community Church where he actively served in various offices at his church. He was a member of the Alamance Rotary Club, having served in all offices, including President, Board member, and is a Paul Harris Fellow. He was a member of the Burlington Masonic Lodge 721 AF&AM and the Burlington Shrine Club where he cooked and served at the annual fish fry for many years.

The family will receive friends at Rich & Thompson Funeral and Cremation Service in Burlington on Friday, March 20, 2026 from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m.

The funeral service will be conducted at St. Paul’s Community Church on Saturday, March 21, 2026 at 1:00 p.m. by Pastor Michael Quintas. A private committal service will be held at Pine Hill Cemetery.
