Thomas Wayne Sheets

Thomas Wayne Sheets, 89, of Wilmington, NC, passed away on November 12, 2023, surrounded by his family. Born in Winston-Salem North Carolina, on September 21, 1934, to George E. Sheets and Kathleen Burke Sheets. Tom led a life of purpose, service, and dedication.

Tom's educational journey began at Reynolds High School, followed by attendance at Hargrave Military Academy, and Gardner-Webb Junior College. In 1959, he proudly graduated from the Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science, marking the beginning of a dedicated career in funeral service.

His commitment extended beyond his professional life, as evidenced by his active participation in various organizations. Tom was a proud member of the Hanover Seaside Club, Wilmington Masonic Lodge #319, the Sudan Shriners Temple, and Pine Valley Methodist Church.

His passion for service was further demonstrated through his role as a past board member and President of the NC State Board of Funeral Service, as well as his term on the NC Commission of Anatomy.

Tom's enduring legacy is defined not only by his professional achievements but also by his family life. He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Elizabeth Moore Sheets, and their daughters, Stephanie Sheets Carter (Keith) and Felicia Sheets Myott. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Katie Carter Paulson (Jens), Hank Carter (Britt), and Luke Myott (Candace), and great-grandchildren, Otto Paulson, Lindy Grace Paulson, Carl Paulson, Keith Paulson, Cecil Mae Myott, Ambrose Myott, and Hank Carter II. He is preceded in death by his brother George C. Sheets.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am, Monday, December 4, 2023, at Andrews Mortuary Valley Chapel. A reception will immediately follow at Hanover Seaside Club.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to the Shriners Hospital for Children, 950 West Faris Road, Greenville, SC, 29605, or the Masonic Home for Children, 600 College Street, Oxford, NC, 27565, honoring Tom's commitment to philanthropy and the well-being of others.
