Benjamin Asa "B.A." Long, Jr., 74, of Dogwood Drive, died Thursday, October 31, at Lexington Medical Center after battling pancreatic cancer. He was the father of Laurie Long Briggs of Davidson, Briggs, Carter and Piedmont Funeral Homes. A funeral service will be held at 3:30pm Tuesday, November 5, at First United Methodist Church, by the Revs. Doug Rowe and Dr. Lee Dukes III. Burial will follow in the Lexington City Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8pm Monday at Davidson Funeral Home and other times at the home of his daughter on W. Second Avenue, Lexington. B.A. was born January 20, 1945 in Helena, Arkansas to B.A. Long Sr. and Laura Jo Underwood Long. He attended Sacred Heart Academy and graduated from Central High School in Helena. For many years, along with his family, he operated the Kream Freeze, a popular drive-in, and Long Motor Company. He later worked for West-Horner Motors in Helena, before moving to Pensacola, FL. To be closer to their grandchildren, B.A. and Donna moved to Lexington, NC, where he retired from Center Towne Realty. He was an active member of First United Methodist Church, where he served on the Board of Trustees, Administrative Council, Usher, and Security Team, and active in the Koinonia Sunday School Class and Methodist Men. He served on the Lexington Passenger Rail Committee and was a member of Lexington Kiwanis Club and Lexington Association of Realtors. His parents and his brother, Dr. Bill Long, preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife, Donna Jeanne Long; his daughter, Laurie Long Briggs and husband, Dan, of Lexington; his brothers, Rodney Long and wife, Tina, of Little Rock, AR, Rick Long and wife, Tena, of Seattle, WA, and Brett Long and wife, Julie, of Biloxi, MS; his sisters-in-law, Heather Long of Charleston, SC, and Vicky Ozment and husband, John, of Fayetteville, AR; and his grandchildren, Sidney Leier Briggs, Lyndon Carroll Briggs, Hadley Worth Briggs, and Jack D. Briggs, II. In lieu of flowers, memorials should be made to United Methodist Men c/o First United Methodist Church, 310 S.
