Mrs. Gladys Elizabeth Fritts Beck, age 101, of the Hedricks Grove Community, Lexington, passed away on Thursday, February 23, 2017 at Abbotts Creek Nursing Center, Lexington. Mrs. Beck was the mother of Marie Palmer, retired funeral director with Briggs Funeral Home and a former NCFDA board member A funeral service will be held 3:00 pm Monday, Feb. 27 at Davidson Funeral Home Chapel, Lexington with Rev. Matthew Smith and Rev. Craig Bartholomew presiding. Interment will follow at Holly Grove Lutheran Church Cemetery Mrs. Beck was born October 3, 1915 in Davidson County to Robert Luther and Mary Elizabeth Lopp Fritts. She was a graduate of Davis Townsend School and a member of New Jerusalem Lutheran Church. She retired from Frank IX and Sons and enjoyed many good years growing beautiful flowers and bountiful gardens. She was her husband's help-mate as long as their health permitted. Gladys was preceded in death by her husband of almost 63 years, Dermont Beck in 2010. She was also preceded in death by brothers, Terry and Roby Fritts; sisters, Edna Waitman, Alta Royal, and Helen Polk. Mrs. Beck is survived by daughters, Donna Kepley and husband Larry and Marie Palmer and husband James, all of Lexington; brother, Thurman Fritts and wife Lillian of Lexington; grandchildren, Ben Palmer and wife Angela, Laurie Benfield and husband Toby, and Bryon Palmer and wife Carrie; 4 great-grandchildren, Ellie, Anna, Rebecca, and Nora Palmer; sisters-in law, Imogene Fritts, Lois Gallimore, Sadie Peacock, and Sylvia Beck; brother-in-law, Wayne Beck and Mary Sue and many nephews and nieces. The family will receive friends on Monday from 1:00 to 2:45 pm at Davidson Funeral Home in Lexington and other times at the home of James and Marie Palmer on Old HWY 64, Lexington. The family would especially like to thank Remy for her years of loving care given to Mamaw during her time at home and to the staff at Abbotts Creek for caring for her through her final days. They also have a great appreciation for Dr. Arnold and his staff for making home visits during her last years. Memorials can be made to Hospice of Davidson County 200 Hospice Way, Lexington, NC 27292 or to Holly Grove Lutheran Church Cemetery 212 Holly Grove Ch. Rd. Lexington, NC 27292.
