Joe Beeson

b. October 14, 1928

Joe Edward Beeson went to be with his heavenly father after an eight year battle with cancer. He was born October 14, 1928 to Ira Earl Beeson Sr. and Iris Matthews Beeson in Forsyth County. His family operated Beeson Crossroads General Store where they lived and farmed for many years. He married Louise Wilkerson Beeson of High Point NC. They moved to Thomasville NC where they made their home and raised 3 children. Joe was very active in First Baptist Church of Thomasville, NC for many years. He served as chairman of the Deacon Board, and served as a teacher and leader of the Men's Bible Class. He was an usher during morning service and served on numerous church committees. The family moved to the Fair Grove Community of Thomasville in 1956 and he immediately became involved in community improvements. He was a charter member of the Fair Grove Volunteer Fire Department, and with his wife helped organize the Fair Grove Community swimming pool and park, "Founders Park" to help create a safe place for local children to gather and play. He was also active in Thomasville organizations. He was a charter member of the Chair City Toastmasters, a member of the Thomasville Masonic Lodge and active in the Davidson County Republican Party. He was recognized for his service to his community by former Governor Jim Martin. His professional career began in 1964 at J.C. Green Funeral Home in Thomasville NC as head of the funeral insurance department. He left the position to become a state manager in the funeral insurance industry. He was a Vice President of Consolidated Life Insurance Company, a company he helped organize and later established The Beeson Agency which he owned and operated until his death. During this long career he utilized Investors Heritage Life Insurance Company in Frankfort Kentucky and in 1976 was awarded the designation of "Kentucky Kernel" by former Governor of Kentucky Harry Lee Waterfield. He also was a member of the North Carolina Funeral Directors Association for many years and worked with a wide range of Funeral Homes throughout North Carolina. Joe was an avid golfer and member of Colonial Country Club. Joe is survived by his wife Louise Wilkerson Beeson, Two sons, Fred and his wife Rachel of Lexington and their children Christina in Seattle, Jon in Hays Kansas, Joseph and Andrea of Lexington, Tim and his wife Pam of Thomasville and their children Lana and Madison of Thomasville and Lauren of Greensboro, a daughter Beverly and husband Jim Spicer of Asheville and their son Greg and daughter Christa. Joe was also blessed with eight Great Grandchildren, Landon, Bryson, Isabel, Alexis, Hailey, Olivia, Breaya, and Rylan. He has two surviving sisters, Sara Lewallen and Linda Silva of High Point. All four of his brothers Ira Jr., Jack, Wade and Charles are deceased. Visitation for the family will be held in the sanctuary of First Baptist Church from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Monday June 13, 2016 followed by the service in the sanctuary at 1:00p.m. Interment will follow at Holly Hill Memorial Park Cemetery.
