Lucius "Luke" Turner, 79, of Raleigh, transitioned to his heavenly home on Wednesday, May 24, 2017 at Rex Healthcare in Raleigh. Lucius was born in Johnston County, NC on June 9, 1937 to the late Hubert and Emma Belle Rhodes Turner. He began his career in funeral service with Pennington-Smith Funeral Home which later merged with Brown-Wynne Funeral Home. Lucius was a valued member of the staff of Brown-Wynne Funeral Home where he was employed for over 55 years. He was a member of Lincoln Park Holiness Church, which he loved dearly and served faithfully as a deacon. Luke enjoyed fishing and a good Western film; he could watch one 24 hours a day if you let him. He was often found eating peanut butter straight from the jar or enjoying a piece of fresh fish. Luke was a talented cook and landscaper and loved to work in his yard when he could. Above all else, Luke loved his family dearly and was an impassioned husband, father, and friend. He was preceded in death by 5 brothers, Luther, Roy, Gilford, Ed and Clarence Turner; and 2 sisters, Elizabeth Turner Patton and Ada Turner Grant. Luke is survived by his wife of 43 years, Judy Palmer Turner; sons, Lucius D. Turner (Patricia) of Raleigh, Lavar Turner (Beverly) of Raleigh and James Harris (Ericka) of Philadelphia, PA; daughters, Sonya Jones, Sharon Hill (Keddrick) and Aisha Turner; brothers, James Lewis Turner of Philadelphia, PA and Wayman Turner of Raleigh; nine grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends. He is also survived by sister-in-law Delsie Burnett and brother-in-law Chester Burnett. A funeral service was held at 11am Saturday, May 27, 2017 at Lincoln Park Holiness Church, 13 Heath St, Raleigh, NC 27610 with Pastor William Eli Ratcliff officiating. The family will received friends from 10-11am, prior to the service at the church. Burial followed the service at Carolina Biblical Gardens, 1530 Creech Rd, Garner, NC 27529. Arrangements by Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, 300 Saint Mary's St. Raleigh, NC. Condolences may be sent to www.BrownWynne.com
