Mr. Stephen F. "Barney" Pope, 64, passed away Wednesday the 26th of April, 2017 at the residence of John & Flo Caudle surrounded by his adopted family. He was born in Union County to the late Fred L. & Edna Carpenter Pope. Memorial Services will be 4pm Saturday the 29th of April, 2017 in the Marshville Presbyterian Church. The family will greet friends following the service. "For now I am ready to be offered the time of my departure is at hand. I have fought the good fight, I have finished my course. I have kept the faith". 2 Timothy 4:6-7 Barney dedicated his life to serving the people of Union, Anson and surrounding counties as a funeral director and embalmer. Barney knew at the age of 14 what his life's calling was. Barney served his fellow man for over 47 years. He began his career with Mr. Bob Morgan, Sr. at Morgan & Son Funeral Home in Marshville, NC. Barney attended Wingate College and the Kentucky School of Mortuary Science and returned to NC as a licensed funeral director and embalmer. He served his apprenticeship with Whitley Funeral Home in Kannapolis, NC. Once he completed his apprenticeship he was employed by McEwen's Funeral Home of Monroe, he later joined Davis Funeral Home of Monroe, Hartsell Funeral Home of Midland, and Cauthen Funeral Home currently known as Lancaster Funeral Home. He eventually returned to McEwen Funeral Home of Monroe and completed his service to his community in 2014. Steve was active in the Boy Scouts of America for many years , was a Charter Member of the John K. Barnhardt Boy Scout Camp, a Master Mason at Monroe Lodge #244 AF&AM, a Monroe Jaycee and a member of the Queen City Model A Club. He is survived by his aunt Ms. Louise Parker of Monroe, NC. In addition to his aunt he is survived by numerous cousins. His adopted family: Mrs. Flo Caudle and her husband John of Peachland, NC., Mrs. Karolyn Smith and her husband Allen of Marshville, NC., Mr. Randy Thomas and his wife Debbie of Marshville, and Jan Klutz of Ft. Mill, SC.. His adopted family also includes numerous nieces and nephews. The family requests that memorials be made to either of the following: Marshville Presbyterian Church, 501 N.
